The Element of Freedom

RELEASED DECEMBER 15 - Go get her album! While you're at it, get a copy for me as a Christmas gift, hehe!

Alicia Keys' new album is just wonderful. Most likely this will be my "Spring 2010" album, just as her album 'As I Am' was my "Spring 2008" album. I played her 'As I Am' album every single day - when I woke up and was preparing for class, I played it (freshman year I was lucky enough to have my own room and bathroom...*sigh*....those were the days...lol); before I went to sleep, I played it; when I was just chilling in my room, I played it. It was just on play nonstop! Her albums are so soothing, comforting, real, "relate-able", inspiring, and just everything wonderful. As the title of her new album is 'The Element of Freedom', I hope to not only understand through her songs her overall message of freedom, but also exhibit and find freedom in my own life. We all desire freedom in one circumstance or another, and this album would be a great way to start! :-)

I am thankful for....

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!

What does Thanksgiving really mean? We are used to society's view as just a day to eat a lot of turkey and side dishes with friends and family. However, I think we must remember that it is a special day to give thanks to whom it is due.

I have tons to be thankful for - most especially MY LIFE!! I thank God that I'm still breathing and the devil did not succeed in trying to take my life away.

~I am grateful for my lovely, hard-working mother, who raised both me and my sister. She is inspiration in showing me how to be a strong, independent black/Nigerian woman. I love her!

~I am thankful for my wonderful sister who is also my best friend! She's supported and helped me through thick and thin! You're AWESOME! Love you!

~I am thankful for my funny, sweet cousin and friend, Lola Adegoke! Love you!

~I am thankful for TC5 - my awesome friends [Lauren Elliott Ferguson, Nkoli Akaolisa, Jasmin Rae Francis, and Ijeamaka Obodoagha]. We just so flyy! :-)

~I am thankful for my many other bestfriends, friends, etc. - Monicka Khalees, Miriam Marshall, Dalanda Jalloh, Chi Ebo, Ashley Smith, Marion Hsueh, Jeannille Hiciano, Amaris Julian, etc. Family and friends whom I have not mentioned, I am thankful for you all! Don't worry; I definitely have not forgotten about you!!

~I'm thankful for you, Cornell, to be honest. Even though I hate you some times for being mean with your weather/location and your professors and what not, there's still many more great things you've offered to me. I've met great friends here and have experienced the favor of God here that I didn't know would be possible. I've been happy since I set foot on your slope and hills! :-)

~I'm thankful for my job and the people there; they're so sweet and funny!

~I'm thankful for everyone that makes me laugh [just to name a few: CKT, CIAO, Lauren, Nkoli, Monicka, Dalanda, Lola, Ashley, and a lot of other ppl at Cornell and other places for their randomness/stupidness/weirdness]. Lol! Making me laugh is one of the best ways to get to my heart! :-D

~I'm thankful for my advisors and other administrators at Cornell: Bonnie Comella, Dean Ray Kim, Dean Catherine Holmes, Mrs. Laura Lewis and Professor Cowie.

~I'm thankful for my neighbors Mrs. Penny and Mr. Tyrone.

My permit!

That'll soon be a license! :-)

"What is this countdown for?" you may ask.

I reply, "To get my DRIVER'S LICENSE!!! WOO HOO!"

Then you respond in one of many ways, "Ummm...okay. Who cares." or "Shouldn't you already have that? Geez, you're 20!" or "Wow. That's so sad." etc..

And then I say, "You hater." Lol! JK!

As you can see since I've made a post about this, I am really excited to get my driver's license. I've been wanting this for a while. For me, it symbolizes freedom, independence, responsibility, and I guess maturity. It's my one step closer to getting my own car.

Yes, I should already have it; however, you know, it just never happened - and definitely not by my choice did it come relatively late. I've been wanting my permit since I turned 15 and began begging my mother to take me to the DMV to get it. Then, I turn 16, and was still asking to go get it; 17 rolls around...finally I turn 18, yet only get my permit! Not even my license!

Knowing that I'll be home for Christmas and wanting to get a "cheaper" GA license than a "more expensive" NY license, I called the DMV yesterday and scheduled my appointment. Now all that left's is practicing. I know many of the basics, however, there's a lot others I need to work on [parallel parking, backing up, etc.]Practicing with my mother sometimes isn't fun [picture yelling when making a left turn in the wrong lane...lol], but I guess it's worth it if I really want my license. Perseverance equals success.

So, I'm sitting in the living room, having stayed up for no good reason. It's 7 am and I have decided it would be nice to start a blog.

And here it is.

I thought it would be nice to start my first post on the tidbits about me.

I became a Cornellian Fall '08 when I transferred from Lincoln Memorial University (No, not Lincoln University, the hbcu). I love Cornell and the friends I've made here. I'm a Bio major, pre-med track, aiming for med school in the future. Despite a setback this semester, I

will be back on my feet in Spring, ready to grind under the 20 degree weather, feet of snow, and sleepless nights, lol. Shout out to the Class of '11!!

My favorite color is Lavender/purple! Love it! [Peep the purple rose :-)]

I Love music of all [well most] sorts! Gospel and R&B/Hip-Hop rank the highest, with fave artists such as Alicia Keys, Kirk Franklin, Michael Jackson, etc.
